What is the Montgomery County Sheriff Citizen's Academy?

The Academy is a community relations based program designed for citizens to meet the men and women who serve them, and to educate these same citizens of the "how's  and why's" of law enforcement. The students who participate in this program are very much encouraged to be involved in the process by engaging in dialogue with the presenters and other students.

What Topics are covered?

The participants are given a realistic view of the department. A wide variety of topics are discussed, from patrol procedures, penal and traffic laws, criminal investigation, crime prevention, officer safety, and gang and narcotics activity. The discussions are led by members of the department as well as judicial officials from around the county. For specifics on the topics to be covered, click here. When and where are the meetings?

The class meets every Thursday beginning at 7 PM, at the Sheriff's Department Training Academy, located at the south end of the Criminal Justice Center in Conroe. There are 14 sessions including the graduation event. There may be a couple of sessions held outside the confines of the classroom such as a tour of the jail, a night on the firing range to witness a SWAT training, etc.

Who is eligible to attend?

Any citizen in good standing of at least 21 years of age that lives or works in Montgomery County. A background check will be performed prior to admittance to the Academy.

Is there a cost to attend?

There is a fee of $35 which helps to offset the cost of your academy shirt and the materials that will be provided to you each week. This fee will be collected during the first evening of the Academy. All other costs are absorbed by the department itself.
